Why I like to Travel

1. I like to travel to try to become a new person and try to get away from everyday life and take a brake. When i travel i like to learn more about the world but most of all discover myself in a whole new way. I get a chance to compare my life. "We travel, initially, to lose ourselves; and we travel, next, to find ourselves." When traveling not only do you get rid of day to day life but you find new ways of living.

2. " The real voyage of discovery consists not on seeing new places, but in seeing with new eyes." I think what Iyer is trying to say is that when traveling, many people look at the place with the same perspective as if they are at home and that they should change their perspective to get a greater experience. When I travel I like to look at the new environment as if I am living there.

3. " What gives value to travel is fear." When traveling there are so many new things to do and if you don't try them you don't gain much from the trip. Fear is what keeps us from trying new things, when we lea overcome our fears we open up a whole new world.

4. I believe that travelers have a responsibility to share their knowledge and experience with all they visit and those they return to. I believe this because when you go somewhere you talk to the people on their life and tell them about yours, they then learn about your day to day life and you also have something to share when you return home. This way you spread your culture and absorb theirs.

5. " We travel to bring what little we can, in our ignorance and knowledge, to those parts of the globe whose riches are differently dispersed. And we travel in essence, to become young fools again- to slow time down and get taken in, and fall in love once more." This is my favorite quote because when we go places, we don't know much about them or the way of life and we learn and it makes you feel refreshed and rejuvenated. It makes you feel more alive than ever.

Why Australia?

Hi my name is Nishant, I'm 14 and some hobbies of mine would be skateboarding and playing tennis. My favorite subject in school would probably have to be English because reading and writing come  more easily to me than other subjects like Math and Biology. I am really looking forward to meeting new people and going new places.

The main reason this course caught my attention is because, how often do you get an opportunity to go out of the country on a school trip? At first I wasn't sure about it and I said "I'm not that type of person", but now that I think about it I know that since I'm stepping out of my comfort zone and am going to get a huge benefit from this. Just the fact of this course being so unique makes me feel thankful that I can be a part of it.
While traveling, something I pay attention to are to not go by the guide or book. Usually the people in the area know what's worth seeing and on previous trips I tried this and it definitely made my experience more worthwhile. I really like learning about culture and not just taking pictures at places or of objects and wildlife but learning about the history of the building or learning about the animals. All of that just makes your trip
worth more than you can imagine. Some things I really want to learn about when I go to Australia and Zealand are about the animals, such as Tasmanian Devils, Kangaroos, Koalas, Sloths, etc. and I am also very interested about learning about their culture and the way they live. My look on Australia is that its very similar to the way we live and that its more modern than cultural, but you never know, things may surprise you.The reason I feel we're learning about the place we're going to before actually going there is so that we know the history of the places and so we also can say "hey look there's the opera house! ____ and ___ performed there and _________ built it". It really helps you get a good sense of things when you visit and you don't feel as much as a foreigner. It pretty much enhances your trip and makes it worthwhile.
